Yesterday my fiancee was promoting this pasta recipe, which only had 5 basic ingredients; shrimp, garlic, fresh red chilis, lemon zest and olive oil. It did not impress me. Only these 5 ingredients? In my mind, I thought there is no way this could possibly produce an enjoyable meal. But I tried it out nontheless.
Preparation was quick; just chopped the cili finely, pounded the garlic with a pestle and mortar, peeled and deveined the shrimps, and grated some lemon zest.
A quick stir fry of the cili, garlic and shrimp over some olive oil, then tossed in the cooked linguini, and done! It took less than 30 minutes (and I am a very novice in cooking). The recipe did mention tossing in some flat leef parsley, but off course fresh herbs are very expensive in Malaysia so I left that one out. Even so, it tasted fantastic, and I enjoyed it while watching World Cup 2006.
Pasta truly never fails, and is accepted internationally. The fact that it can be customised makes it a very reliable and adventerous recipe. The Complete Book of Pasta and Noodles is one of the most complete and comprehensive pasta books, and I look forward to try out all the different recipes, even on a busy day.
