MAS offers discounts galore at Matta Fair

(New Straits Times) KUALA LUMPUR: Up to 60 per cent discounts and one million seats on Malaysia Airlines are up for grabs.

This is what visitors can expect from the national carrier at the 22nd Malaysian Association of Tours and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair from Sept 22 to 24.

MAS commercial director Datuk Rashid Khan said the airline would offer discounts of between 15 and 60 per cent for airfare to various international and domestic destinations.

He said the 60 per cent discount would be applicable mostly for non-peak periods.

“However, visitors can still expect some discount for travelling during the peak period like Christmas and Chinese New Year but it will not be that much,” he said at a joint Press conference with Matta officials at the MAS building in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

Rashid said the discounts would be valid for travel until May 31, 2007.

“We are confident the discounts will push sales for the international routes as buyers would find the price attractive and hard to beat,” he said.

For example, Rashid said a return ticket from Bangkok which normally cost RM800 would be slashed to RM300.

“Some of the destinations we expect will sell like hot cakes are Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, India and Australia,” he said.

MAS expects to register sales of more than RM25 million during the three-day fair.

The national carrier is the official airline for the fair while the New Straits Times is the official newspaper.

Admission to the event, to be held at the Putra World Trade Centre, is RM3 while it is free for children below 12.
