With so many islands and beach destinations, where’s a good place to dive in west Malaysia? Langkawi? Perhentian? Redang? Tioman? Pangkor?
A week in Langkawi seems to me to be a waste of diving to me. There is only one spot to dive there and not much good either. The water is not very clear.
There is no reason why you cannot go to the east coast islands and start diving there.
None of the islands ( Perhentian, Redang or Tioman) have challenging diving conditions and never much in the way of tides or currents. Tell the divemaster you have not dived for some time (they will probably make you do a pool test anyway) and he/she will plan the dive to suit you.
Langkawi is OK for a few days sightseeing and cheap drinks but if its diving you want, forget it. Redang and Perhentians are close to each other and water there is very calm and clear with temperature at least 28C. Very civilised!
