Kota Bharu is the capital of the state of Kelantan. Kelantan has been ruled by the opposition party PAS (Islamic Party of Malaysia). Through the eyes of an outsider, Kelantan is the most socially conservative and Islamic state.

I beg to defer.

Kelantan is where you’ll probably find the most honest and friendly people in Malaysia. If you loose your wallet, a local would report it to the police station. You’ll see there’s less large corporations and mega hypermarkets, but many flourishing small-to-medium business men and women - and yes - women in Kelantan almost dominates business.

Its the only place in Malaysia where you can have RM2.00 (US$0.50) in your pocket with a filling meal with abundance in choices.
